Fixed Signs and Sports
Fixed signs are a little more difficult to describe than Cardinal and Mutable signs. The Cardinal and Mutable signs are such opposites that you could compare and contrast them to come up with a clear picture of their personalities. The Fixed signs are a little bit of both of them. Some Fixed signed people appear to be like Cardinals and others are more like Mutables.
Sports are one place that Fixed signed people stand out. They are the ones that seem to take the game too seriously. It is almost as if their life depended on winning. This is not necessarily a bad trait. There are neither bad nor good personalities. Every personality has in benefit in certain situations.
Some of my siblings and I like to play volleyball. We play at various social clubs that are not too competitive. I sometimes play with my Scorpio brother or Scorpio sister. Scorpio is a Fixed sign. My brother and sister are both good volleyball players and I enjoy playing with them. They are pretty easy going for the most part until the competition steps up. Then they transform into competitive monsters.
One place where their competitiveness comes in is the selection of their teammates. They want the people that will help them win. You almost have to go through a screening process to get on their team. If someone is not playing up to par, they are not afraid to ask them to leave. We once ridiculed my Scorpio sister for kicking someone off her “Social” club league.
My Scorpio brother and sister tend to be a bit bossy on the court. They are quick to direct where their teammates should be playing, how they should be playing, and when they are messing up. The more intense the competition, the more they try to keep their team on the winning track.
Playing against my Scorpio brother or sister’s team is not always a pleasant experience. You are the enemy. If they feel that your team is cheating or not playing properly, they are quick to correct you and view you as a villain for the rest of the game. I have witnessed my Scorpio brother and sister get into heated arguments with other teams over questionable calls on many occasions. Tennis great John McEnroe is an extreme example of this competitive nature.
This may sound very negative the way I’m describing Fixed signs, but it really is not. Imagine a team of Mutable signs. They would take forever to set up because no one would want to make the decision. Their intensity level would also be down because there would not be someone to yell at them when they start to slack off. They would also be so timid that the other teams would take advantage of them. They need that Fixed sign to keep them inline.
Fixed signs make great team captains because they tend to push themselves hard and their teammates. This stands out on small teams like hockey and basketball. Some examples are:
- Steve Yzerman (The BEST example!)
- Nicklas Lidstrom
- Sidney Crosby
- Isiah Thomas
- Magic Johnson
- Michael Jordan
- Tim Duncan
- Kevin Garnett
- Karl Malone
