“Putty Brain” Theory
Why does the position of the planets at your birth affect your personality? No one knows for sure. We don’t even know for certain if astrology is true. Let’s just assume astrology is true. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a theory as to why it might be true? There are plenty of theories out there. My personal theory is that it has something to do with Sir Isaac Newton’s Law of Gravitation. It is this law that explains why the tides occur in the ocean.
Newton’s law states that all objects are attracted to each other like magnets. This is called gravitational pull. Big objects are like big magnets and small objects are like small magnets. His law also states that the further the objects are from each other, the less powerful their attraction is. This is just like magnets. You and I would be like small magnets. Our attraction towards each other is almost nonexistent. The Earth is a big magnet and we are right next to it. It has a pretty strong pull on us. We call it gravity.
The moon is also like a big magnet. The Earth and Moon are actually trying to pull themselves together. They would if it wasn’t for the centrifugal force caused by the moon going around the Earth. It’s these forces that cause the tides to go up and down.
If this force can affect our great big oceans so much, do you think that it is possible that they might affect a little tiny sensitive embryo developing in a woman’s body? Who knows? It is a good enough for me to say that there is probably a scientific explanation behind astrology.
The sun would be considered a huge magnet in our example. It has more pull on the Earth than any other object in the Solar System. It pulls with about a hundred times more force than the moon. This is probably why it has the most affect on our personality and astrology. Jupiter is a pretty big magnet. It is much bigger than the moon, but not nearly as big as the sun. Its force is actually less than the moon’s force because it is much further away. It has the third greatest force on Earth in the solar system, behind the moon.
I have a little “Putty Brain” theory that I use to help explain astrology. I’m quite sure that the theory is false, but it is a good visual that may be somewhat related to what really happens. With my theory, I picture my developing brain during my mother’s pregnancy as being like a ball of clay or putty.
For the first month, the force of the sun pulled on my brain in the direction of Gemini and slightly formed my brain in that direction. Then the sun moved in front of the constellation Cancer and pulled my brain in that direction for a month. The sun spends about one month in each constellation/sign. So it kept this up until I was born, when the sun was in Pisces.
At the same time, the moon was pulling with a little less force in another direction. The moon only takes two or three days to change signs. So it would pull a little in one direction, move, pull in another direction, move, and so on. It would have a more rounded effect on my brain. Jupiter pulls with a little less force than the moon, but Jupiter only changes signs once a year. The result would be a good size lump in the direction of the constellation that Jupiter was in. The rest of the planets pull in their own way. They all worked together to shape my brain.
With my theory, the shape of my brain is the foundation of my personality. My shape is unique, but similar to others. For example, other Pisces have nine lumps in the same areas as mine, but my Jupiter lump may be in a different location. People with my shaped brain tend to be good at certain things. We also tend to like people with brains shaped a certain way. For example, maybe we like people with lumps were we don’t have them. I can tell who these people are by looking at their birth date and where the planets were at that time.
Finally, we have to keep in mind that the sun, moon, and other planets continue to pull on my brain throughout my life. My brain is already shaped, but when certain planets pull on my brain in just the right direction, I feel pretty happy. When they pull it another direction, I feel a little grumpy. Then there are those times that it pulls it in a direction that makes me feel sexy.
People with differently shaped brains feel different emotions from the same force. For example, when I feel sexy, maybe they do not. This is where the fortune telling part of astrology comes in. Let’s suppose that I noticed that on a certain day, the planets would be lined up such that Pisces and Sagittarius both feel sexy. If I wrote astrology for the newspapers, I might write in the paper for Pisces “You will have a sexual encounter with a Sagittarius today.” Fortune telling in astrology is nothing more than knowing how people might feel on certain days, based on the planets, and guessing what someone with those feelings will do. It is similar to knowing that strange people come out when there is a full moon.
Like I mentioned before, I’m quite sure that my little “Putty Brain” theory doesn’t actually happen. It is just a visual aid that I use to explain astrology. The main point is that astrology is based on the positions of the planets, sun, and moon. These bodies have various effects on Earth that are proven, even though they are millions of miles away. It is quite possible that some of these effects are on humans themselves.
