Alternative Energy
Even back in 9th Grade, I knew coal was not a good energy source. I gave a speech on it at that young age. Take a drive down I-75 and look out over the Ford Rouge Plant and then go further and look at the DTE coal-fired Monroe Power Plant. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to realize that those places are dumping A LOT of garbage in the air. While in Monroe, look that Fermi, the nuclear power plant. Steam is pretty much the only thing coming out of that. Even an Idiot that doesn't care about Global Warming should be able to understand that we should be dumping garbage in the air that we all breath.
For Electricity, Spain gets about 20% from each of Wind, Solar, Hydro, Nuclear and Fossil Fuels. VERY BALANCED! If one goes down or has problems, there are four others that can step up. The USA is about 60% Fossil Fuels, 20% Nuclear and 20% Renewables. Not only are we focused on Dirty Energy, but we are giving the Fossil Fuel Industry a lot of power. Please explain why you think that is better.
From a Defense Perspective, Energy Supply is one of the first things you target. Nuclear and Coal plants are big targets because taking out one takes out a large area. Renewable energy is A LOT MORE DISTRIBUTED making it a tough target. I will probably be putting solar on my house this year. So when Trump Attacks Michigan and takes out the power plants, I would still be fine because I would be making my own electricity. I would be able to power my house AND vehicles! Please explain why you think it is strategically better to focus on one energy source in one central location.
Regarding Spain, their problem was caused by adjusting the power grid. America's power grid and infrastructure in general is long overdue for upgrades. Democrats know that and that is why they have passed significant bills to upgrade it. Republicans, of course, don't want to because they are stupid. 2003 should have been out wake up call to make changes. 2021 was another reminder. We have a lot more natural disasters now that are taking out our power. We have ways to make smart grids to get energy from distributed sources and quickly isolate and keep small problem areas.
