Astrology 101
When people ask your astrology or “sign”, they are basically asking you what constellation of stars the sun was in front of at the moment that you were born. Many believe that people that have the same “sign” have similar personalities. From a fortune telling aspect, they also believe that the current constellations that the sun, moon, and planets are in front of will make people of the same sign feel a certain way. If people feel a particular way (like affectionate), then they are more likely to have certain behaviors (fall in love).
The sun changes around the 21st day of each month and correspond to the change of seasons. The dates the signs change fluctuate within a couple of days from year to year. If you were born on the edge, check an ephemeris to be sure. Signs can be grouped together by common characteristics. The three ways of grouping signs is by gender (every other sign), quality (every third sign), and element (every fourth sign).

Personalities
Combine the word in parentheses from the element and the word from the quality to get a basic summary of the sign. The best way to learn the personalities of each sign is to just observe people. See how people of the same element or quality are alike. The cardinal group and mutable groups are the best to observe.
Relationships
Element, quality, and gender are groups of signs that have common characteristics. People in the same element have a lot in common and their differences complement each other nicely. They are best suited for marriage or friendship. People in the same quality have a lot in common, but their differences do not complement each other nicely. They could form good friendships and marriages, but it requires a little work. People in the same gender have some things in common, but not as much as the elements and qualities.
When looking for a friend or mate, look for people in the same element first, then quality, then gender. Avoid people that do not share any of the groups with you. People of the same sign should also be avoided. You can have a good relationship with any sign, the compatible ones will tend to come more natural.
The Workplace
Look at the Quality when deciding your career or what type of person to hire. Cardinal signs are best suited for sales type positions or where speed and people skills are more important than thoroughness. As managers they will be motivators and maintain an energetic atmosphere.
Mutable signs are best suited for technical positions such as teachers, trainers, technical support, applications engineers, and places where attention to detail is more important than speed. As a manager they will be perfectionist and critical of their subordinates work. They may not be well liked, but they would put out a good product.
Fixed signs are best suited for management or political positions. They take on some of the characteristics of the Cardinal signs and some of the Mutable signs. They tend to be good at organization, consensus building, and keeping projects on track. They are very diplomatic. Their management style is best suited for leadership and execution.
